Therefore, using chargers or electric starters from other scooter sellers or other chargers may result in overcharging, undercharging or improper charging. These include, for example, wheels and tires, brake pads and brake levers. Always read your scooter manual before performing any maintenance to ensure that it will continue to operate safely in the future. All scooters have in common that they move parts - wheels, throttle, brake cables and similar parts. By making sure that important parts such as bearings, wheels or brake calipers are adequately lubricated, you can reduce the friction between these parts and thus increase scooter lifespan. Consult the owner's manual for your scooter to find out what type of lubricant is best for your product. As a rule, lubrication should be done at least once a month with regular use and possibly twice with heavy use.
Who brakes, loses? It should rather be said: If you don't brake, you will definitely lose - maybe even your life. Scooters offer different braking methods, disc brakes are common or, in older and very inexpensive models, drum brakes are also used. Depending on the type of brakes your electric motorbike / escooter has, you should make some special considerations. Clean brake pads by removing the brake pad panel and spray clean with compressed air. The brake pads gradually wear out during riding. Visually inspect your scooter's brake pads once a week to make sure they are still in reasonable condition. At the latest when you hear a metallic scratching noise or notice that your brakes are less responsive, you should immediately check or replace the brake pads. Incidentally, this task is done by every two-wheel mechanic in your area, should you not trust yourself to do it.
By making sure that your moped scooter's tires are in perfect condition, you are contributing to your safety during operation and the longevity of pedal bike or scooter. According to legal regulations, the tread depth for e-scooters up to 45 km/h must be at least 1 mm, with faster scooters at least 1.6 mm. But you shouldn't let it get that far: it is best to change the tires when the tread depth is 2 mm, then you have enough safety reserves. The age of the tires also plays a role: Change the tires after five to six years at the latest, because they lose plasticizes and thereby lose their adhesion, i.e. their grip.
Monitoring air pressure Scooter tires are not subject to the same performance standards as most car tires. The amount of pressure per square inch (PSI) your scooter's tire will require should be indicated on the sidewall. Before each use, check that the tires on your scooter have the recommended air pressure. Your tire pressure should be kept between 15-20 PSI. Add or remove air as needed to maintain safe tire pressure at all times.
If you properly maintain your ebike / scooter, you can usually use it for many years without breakdowns. In addition, it is a comforting feeling that, for example, the brakes are working correctly and the tires have sufficient tread depth. However, this do-it-yourself maintenance does not replace a regular workshop visit for inspection.
